In the Islamic culture, before
a man can marry a woman, he must ask for her hand in marriage from
her father and all the men in her immediate family. This custom
is called a Tulba (or asking).
On March 14, 2004, Adel, Shiek Ibrahim, and Adel's
cousin Eslam were welcomed to Heba's house
to ask for her hand in marriage from her father and
immediate men in the family. Shiek Ibrahim began
by beautifully reciting some versus from the Holy Quran. Then he
proceeded to asked for Heba from her father
and grandfather upon accepting the men were offered
arabic coffee which they drank from as a sign of their acceptance.
I'rat il Fatiha (reading of the Fatiha) proceeded
immediately after the acceptance. This even was celebrated with
a delightful, well prepared dinner from Heba's mother.
After dinner, everyone gathered around to take pictures for long
life memories.
